Hospitality Review South Africa

A guest house fit for a Sir

Approximately 20km from Cape Town City Centre, you'll find The Sir David, a four-star Boutique Guest House, just metres away from the Small Bay Beach in Bloubergstrand.

On first contact with general manager Claire Dinnie , I knew that this boutique guesthouse would be the perfect getaway that I needed from the bustling city life that I've been experiencing of late. I was looking forward to the soothing sounds and beautiful views of Table Bay, as well as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World - Table Mountain.

Getting there

Instead of jumping into a car, I opted to try the MyCiti Bus, which I believe is a very convenient way of getting around in Cape Town these days. I hopped onto a bus at the Civic Centre Terminal and started making my way around the bay. This form of transport is fairly priced and very reliable. No need to sit in traffic as it has its own designated lane just for MyCiti Buses. (See rates/routes). If I had taken a car, it would have taken a mere 30-minute drive, depending on traffic. However, the bus route is approximately 1h20 so I was able to actually enjoy my journey there - taking in the surrounding views.

After changing buses at the Table View Terminal, I headed in the direction of Small Bay. The bus stop is just a few steps away from the entrance to the guesthouse.

Greeted by a lovely lady by the name of Mabel, I was ushered to my room. The guesthouse hosts 10 luxury en-suite bedrooms, perfect for a family, honeymoon couple or even a group of friends. There is a choice of rooms, but be aware that not all the rooms are sea-facing, so when making your booking, do enquire about that. All bedrooms are en-suite and serviced daily.

Once settled in, I took a walk around the guesthouse to view the facilities. These include a dining room, a coffee bar, an honesty bar, a living room, a balcony with a view of Table Mountain, as well as a conference facility. There are also braai facilities if you choose not to go to the nearby restaurants.

Each room will provide your basic needs - an en-suite with a large shower, bathroom amenities, flat screen TV with satellite TV, wireless internet connectivity, in-room safes and more. I was very appreciative of the wifi as this has become a basic need in the digital world we find ourselves.

While the room was not very large, it has just enough space to move around in, and all I wanted was some R&R, so this didn't bother me at all. The décor in the room is very modern and appealing - very easy on the eye. It also has a sliding door opening up onto a balcony, but I have to remind you again that not all rooms are sea-facing.

Hospitality

Mabel, the lovely lady who welcomed me, was very helpful and gave great service. I needed a cab to go out for dinner and she organised this for me without any hassles. Their concierge services include: car hire services, airport shuttles, day excursions, restaurant reservations and more. I would rate the service I received very highly.

Rates

For a 4-star guesthouse, The Sir David is certainly a bargain to which you cannot turn a blind-eye. Rack rates range from R655 - R855 p/p sharing. All rates include a full English breakfast.
